The ultimate goal of ACT is psychological flexibility, which is the ability to respond to what’s right in front of us, right here, right now. As humans, we are prone to react to the world based on short term feelings, thoughts and impulses. The problem tends to be that we are more likely to act only in our short term desire for comfort, rather than in the interest of longer term values. If we can be psychologically flexible, we can be able to choose how to respond, while having these moments of discomfort. And if we can do that, we can make our life, instead of our life making us.
